Maybe the bath had been a bad idea. Berg didn't know where to look. Besides the false start of the water not pumping initially, the bath should have gone off without a hitch. Except there was one. Tadashi. His skin. His hair. His tail. All of it, out, wet and glistening. Drops of water formed on the thick fur and dripped steadily down onto the floor like the ones down Tadashi's bare chest.

Whatever had changed between Berg and Tadashi two weeks ago was becoming more evident day by day, and today it just smacked Berg in the face. Watching Tadashi sit down on the stool to wash carefully would be his undoing. Berg was grateful for the towel across his lap. Shame heated Berg's cheeks.

Looking was one thing, but continuing to dance with temptation was another. He needed to put distance between them. He was only a friend. Someone Tadashi could rely on, nothing more. He couldn't be. Maybe he needed to try to invite Tadashi down the mountain again. Or maybe invite people up. Inviting Tadashi to town hadn't seemed to work thus far, maybe he had to switch strategies… and stop ogling his friend.

"Um… you need the shampoo?" asked Berg, struggling to fill the silence.

"Yes," answered Tadashi, reaching for the bottle.

Their fingers brushed, and Berg nearly dropped the bottle. A hot spark jumped between them. Tadashi's startled eyes met his. Berg dropped his gaze, rubbed the back of his neck, and mumbled an apology.

A hush fell over the room. Tadashi worked his fingers into his hair as he washed it. Berg gawked, feeling a bit like a weird creepy guy, but watching the black locks sway and drip was mesmerizing. Until Kou slid in on a bar of soap.

"I found it! I found—what?"

The squirrel eyed them.

"Nothing," Berg and Tadashi answered together. They glanced at each other, then to Kou.

"Uh-huh." Kou narrowed his eyes then pushed the soap to Tadashi. "Here. It was next to the washbasin like you said."

"Thanks, Kou." Tadashi reached for the squirrel. "Why don't you let me wash you before getting in the bath?"

"Papa!" whined Kou, ducking out of reach. "I can do it."

"Fine." Tadashi plopped the shampoo bottle next to Kou. "I was just offering to help."

Kou sniffed, his tail swishing and bobbing. He turned away from Tadashi, then pushed against the bottle, tipping it over. It bounced against the floor before settling. Kou pulled on the cap to no avail. It was screwed on tight. His black eyes focused on Berg, ignoring Tadashi.

"Will you unscrew it?"

Berg nodded, waving Kou to him. Kou rolled the bottle over and Berg opened it with ease. Kou tried to climb up the bottle, but it tipped over, squishing him. Berg covered his laughter with a cough. Tadashi didn't manage it, earning Kou's wrath. He shot toward Tadashi, but not before Berg grabbed him and picked up the shampoo, setting it aside.

"Whoa there, Kou."

"He's laughing at me," huffed the squirrel. He squirmed, and being wet, he was hard to hold onto.
